Japanese students visit

Year 10 pupils get involved in a cultural exchange with Japanese students.

On the 13th January, Balcarras hosted a handful of Japanese students and welcomed them to Gloucestershire. Around 15 year 10 pupils showed up to take part in numerous activities and we had the opportunity to share our culture with them.

The morning started with a welcome talk and, generously, they gave Balcarras a gift for hosting them. We then gave them a tour around the school to show them what Balcarras is like. They showed a strong interest in history, art, science and Taylor Swift!

After the tour, they showed us a few games which they enjoy playing, such as, a reaction game where they read a word out in English and then we had to find the matching picture card. We also tried some origami where we made four-point stars! As Balcarras students, we taught them some English traditions, such as, Bonfire Night, fish and chips and many more. To finish the morning, they loved sharing some Japanese sweets and taking lots of selfies!
