BALCARRAS ACTS AS BELLWETHER AGAIN AS JACK BEE-STEPHENS STORMS TO VICTORY IN SCHOOL GENERAL ELECTION
On Thursday Jack Bee-Stephens representing the Liberal Democrats surged to a landslide victory in the Balcarras General Election. Balcarras often acts as a bellwether indicating the direction of travel in Cheltenham. For example the Conservatives took the school seat in 2015. Once again the school has acted as bellwether as Stephens emerged with the lion’s share of the vote.
The full results are as follows:
Conservatives, Dominik Spencer - 21 votes
Labour, Beatrice Floyd - 49 votes
Green Party, Sammy Cadbury- Hamood -68 votes
Liberal Democrats, Jack Bee- Stephens, 235 votes
373 votes cast, 9 ballot papers rejected.
The result was announced in traditional fashion from the Main Block Balcony. The Returning Officer, Mr M K Stoker, declared the result before Jack gave a short victory speech to the massed crowds below in the quad.
On Wednesday each of the candidates had taken part in an election debate held in the Sixth Form Common Room. It was extremely high quality and each candidate had really mastered their brief. Well done to all of them. We extend our thanks to Alex Chalk, Max Wilkinson and Daniel Wilson all of whom addressed our students' questions well.
