GCSE Results 2024

We would like to congratulate the Year 11 of 2023/2024 on an outstanding set of examination results. This year group had a disrupted start to their time here at Balcarras with COVID having a major impact in years 7 and 8. That they have gone on to produce a record-breaking set of results speaks volumes about their can-do attitude and the support they have received from both their families and teachers.

80% of the pupils in the year group achieved a grade 5 or higher in both English and maths. This tops the school previous record of 78%.

45% of pupils in the year group achieved 5 or more grades 9 to 7. This is again a record for the school. 44% of all the grades achieved by pupils were grade 7 or above.

We believe that the school should support every pupil in making the best progress they can. Because of this we place a high value on the progress 8 figure the school achieves. This takes time to be publish but we are confident that this will again show that pupils with all levels of prior attainment are able to thrive here at Balcarras.

A level results 2024

This year saw our Balcarras Year 13 cohort achieve very impressive results at the end of what has been a very challenging academic journey . The cohort performed admirably, and they should feel incredibly proud of the results they attained: 60% A*-B, 82% A*-C and 99% A*-E. Twenty five students achieved 4 A*-A grades.

There was a great atmosphere on results day with a huge proportion of students being accepted onto their first-choice courses at universities, including some who will be continuing their studies at Oxbridge colleges, such as Sonya Shevchuk whose A* A* A* A will see her studying Psychology at Cambridge, Rex Rocco-Devoy whose A* A* A* A will see him studying Engineering at Oxford, along with Daniel Morgan, whose A* A* A and an A* EPQ will see him read History at Oxford too. Other students will be undertaking courses in medicine, veterinary medicine and dentistry, and a significant proportion of the cohort have secured courses at a wide range of Russell Group universities.

Over the past two years, our students have demonstrated fantastic resilience, resolve and academic ability, and we are delighted that this has enabled the vast majority to secure their preferred post-18 destinations. Having completed their arduous A-level courses, and having sat formal, rigorous exams, we hope that they are as proud of themselves as we are of them.

These fantastic achievements are a great measure of the consistency and quality of teaching and learning in the Sixth Form at Balcarras, and also testament to the hard work invested by students and staff alike throughout what has been a tumultuous few years for all. Regardless of the future destinations of our departing Year 13 students, we wish all of them the very best in the future.
