There has always been a great buzz around school during STEM week and this year was no exception. Between Monday 11th and Friday the 15th of March numerous activities were organised to get students enthused about careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths - STEM.

Each day students from Years 7-11 viewed an assembly from Miss Evans and Mr Rothwell demonstrating energy transfers.

On Monday the DT department took all of Year 9 through a workshop to make a glider with the some of the gliders flying up to and over 15m! 

On Tuesday and Thursday half of Year 7 visited the National Science museum in London, whilst the students left at school got to witness Dr Sharp's remarkable chemistry show. 

Friday saw Swansea University students come in and speak to a group if Year 9 pupils about the Bloodhound SSC project - they even made and tested their own rocket powered cars! 

This year the lunchtime lectures were the most highly attended we've had so far ranging from 50-200 people there each day! 

Monday - Trainee doctor Frankie Mayes - speaking about some modern technologies in medicine.

Tuesday - Mr Spring-Wallace speaking about space travel. 

Wednesday - Mr Butler's fossil workshop.

Thursday - Miss Evans talking about sports nutrition supplements. 

Friday: culminated the week with the Big Fat STEM quiz of the year where Mr Brotherton, Mr Niblett, Mrs Atkin and Mrs Taylor-wood Went head to head with their teammates: Isla Norton (Year 8), Nell Marquess (Year 12), Eva Tucker (Year 13) and Robbie McElroy (Year 10) respectively. It was Nell and Mr Niblett who came out victorious!
