Cheltenham Remembers concert
Pupils perform in an event to commemorate one hundred years since the end of WWI
On Thursday 25th October, Mrs Chong took a group of students to sing in the Cheltenham Remembers concert in Cheltenham Town Hall. The event was organised by Gloucestershire Music and also included some of our students playing in Gloucestershire Youth Orchestra and Gloucestershire Youth Wind Band. It was a commemoration of the one hundred years that have passed since the end of WWI. Jonathan Trim, a local instrumental teacher, performer, conductor and performer, wrote a piece specifically for this concert called 'Severn Meadows'. The piece was for choir and orchestra and it was this piece that the singers from Balcarras performed in, alongside Gloucestershire Youth Choir. This really once a tremendous experience - and to be involved in the world premiere of a work is likely to be a one-off experience for many of those involved. The students, Mrs Chong and three parents rehearsed during the afternoon before taking to the stage that evening. All those involved did superbly well. Mrs Chong was incredibly proud and it was a delight to spend the afternoon and evening with the students. The students themselves seem to thoroughly appreciate and enjoy the experience. It is sure to be something they will remember for a long time.
The picture shows the orchestra and choir performing 'Severn Meadows' at the Town Hall which was the finale of the concert.
