On Tuesday 8^th October, we were delighted to have the opportunity to take a group of year 7s to the Literature Festival. This was a rewards trip, and it was lovely to be able to recognise those pupils who have made a really positive start to their learning in English at Balcarras. 

The talk we went to was about creating fantasy worlds and had a very well-known panel of authors speaking: Piers Torday, Philip Reeve and Liz Hyder. The authors spoke about their books, tantalised us with an extract from each novel, and then talked through their top tips for fantasy writing. We agreed that we wanted to read all of the books we heard about!

Following the talk, the pupils had some time in the Waterstones tent and lots of them bought books, some taking the opportunity to have them signed. Thank you, year 7s, for making the trip so enjoyable (even though we got drenched on the walk back to school!).
